About H.E. Prof. Kithure Kindiki, EGH
H.E. Prof. Kithure Kindiki, EGH is the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya, having assumed office on 1 November 2024. Before his appointment as Deputy President, he served as Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration from 2022, overseeing matters relating to national security, internal administration and public safety.
A lawyer, scholar and former legislator, Prof. Kindiki represented Tharaka-Nithi County in the Senate after being elected in 2013 and re-elected in 2017. During his parliamentary career, he served as the Senate Majority Leader from 2013 to 2017 and later as Deputy Speaker of the Senate.
Prof. Kindiki is a Professor of International Law and an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya. He holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Moi University, a Master’s degree in International Human Rights Law and Democracy, and a PhD in International Law from the University of Pretoria, South Africa. His academic career has included teaching at Moi University and the University of Nairobi, where he also held senior academic leadership positions.
His professional career spans academia, legal practice, legislative leadership and national executive service. He has also undertaken work involving international organisations and institutions in areas including international law, governance, human rights and forced migration.
Prof. Kindiki currently serves as Kenya’s third Deputy President under the Constitution of Kenya 2010.
